The latest upgrade to the Leopard 2 is a newly designed 55 caliber 120mm smooth bore main gun. Measuring 1.3m longer than the 44 caliber main gun of its predecessor, the Leopard 2 A5, the new gun of the 2 A6 provides higher projectile velocity for increased range and penetration.

The 2 A6 retains improvements made to previous Leopard 2 tanks including wedge shaped spaced armor effective against chemical weapons and improved electric gun control and stabilization system. The use of the 2 A6 continues to spread throughout Europe with the Netherlands, Spain and Greece adopting the 2 A6 as their main battle tank.

What is the Leopard 2A6 Variant?

The Leopard 2A6 is a main battle tank (MBT) that was developed by the German company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) in the late 1990s. It is an upgraded version of the Leopard 2 tank, which has been in service with various countries since the 1970s.

Here are some key features and improvements of the Leopard 2A6:

Armour: The Leopard 2A6 features advanced modular composite armor, including composite and modular add-on armor kits. This provides improved protection against various types of threats, including anti-tank missiles, rockets, and artillery shells.

Firepower: The tank is armed with a 120mm smoothbore gun, which is capable of firing a wide range of ammunition, including armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot (APFSDS) rounds and high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) rounds.
