Keep your biscuits fresh and stored in style with this impressive collection of biscuit tins & barrels.

Biscuit barrels appeared in England around 1860 and were named as such as a carryover from shipping where ship's biscuits were stored in barrels to keep them dry. Not that the ‘Ships Biscuit’ would prove a popular handout today, 'Hard tack' as it was called, the ingredients were stone ground flour, water and salt, which were mixed into a stiff dough, baked in a hot oven for 30 minutes and then left to harden and dry. By the time the biscuits got on to the ship they were pretty much inedible and the crew used to drop them in stews, broth, gruel or even tea and coffee to soften them, not ideal for the gentle palate of today.

All of the Biscuit barrels have a lightweight lid easily located with a simple seal to keep the contents fresh. They are decorated with designs by Emma Bridgewater, Dog & Dome, FRIENDS Central Perk, Sara Miller, Thornback & Peel, Vanessa Lubach and Wallace and Gromit.
